Volunteer

Call for Volunteers is Closed!

Thank you for your interest in the Social Engineering Community (SEC)’s Call for Volunteers! We are currently looking for volunteers of all experience levels to help with setup, teardown, people and line management, runners, and other duties as assigned. Note that this is a volunteer position within the Social Engineering Community, and not a DEF CON Goon position.

Expectations

  • Volunteers must plan to attend during all four days (Thursday-Sunday) of the Social Engineering Community. While you may not be assigned to help every day, this helps us know all of our volunteers are present for scheduling.
  • Be punctual. Volunteers should plan on arriving at least 10 minutes before their shift begins.
  • Be available. The conference and its villages and communities can get hectic. Please make sure we have a reliable way to contact you via phone.
  • Availability of up to one shift per day over the course of 4 days (Thursday to Sunday), with each shift being up to 7 hours long including lunch and breaks. Please let us know of any conflicts in availability and we’ll work around it if you’re selected.
  • Volunteers are expected to arrange their own travel, lodging, and meals.
  • Volunteers are required to abide by SEC Code of Ethics.

Duties

We may ask you to help with any of the following portions of the event:

    • Helping with the Social Engineering Community and its Youth Event
    • Door and room monitoring
    • Room clearing
    • Helping attendees with seating and general questions
    • Setup and tear down of the community space
    • Other duties as assigned

What’s In It For You

  • One general admission (human) DEF CON badge (a $360 value)
  • Volunteer Experience
  • The opportunity to network with world-class Social Engineer and Security Professionals
